Things Where They're Not

Skirmish: Found or Find (@kahlo2013)

Liner Notes

#acoustic
Whoa, I'm not normally a skirmish guy, but here I am doing two in less than an hour, if these little things count as songs. I won't overthink it or re-record. It feels like it might mean something. (And anyway, you don't dig a well at the top of a hill. Come on!)

Lyrics

If you find a kid at the bottom of a well
You don't blame the well, now, do you?
Jack and Jill ran up the hill
They found no water, 'cause the well was at the bottom

If you go looking for things where they're not
You won't find them

Clever wordplay and a nice little tune. Last two lines are killer. Love the melancholy guitar as well.

I gotta say, that's actually really insightful. This is a solid skirmish if you ask me...which you didn't...this is getting awkward.

Love" you don't blame the well, no do you?"

I am so glad you did this skirmish! I love your delivery with your finger picking and lovely gentle vocals as you challenge the listener with thought provoking questions and a great message! Fantastic take on the prompt!

Nice little ditty that has a Haiku like quality to it. I too have always been puzzled by that pair going up the hill to a well.

I must take issue with your opening statement in the Liner Notes though. I find it a little dismissive of skirmish born songs. I think this comes from the often mistaken idea that songs written within that time frame are necessarily inferior. I don't agree, nor would a lot of songwriters who came up with classics in less than an hour from The Beatles through Dylan to REM and beyond.

I respect those who work on one song for days if not weeks, honing it to perfection. But I expect them to recognise that not everybody works that way. Sometimes the best work can come in an adrenalin fueled rush. Horses for courses, say I.

This makes a good point. It doesn’t make sense the way people look for a lot of things. Good music and sound to carry the song.
