The Controller

Skirmish: Dissociated States (@unpronounceable) Challenge: Short And SweetLiner Notes
This song was inspired by a book I read as a student by Barbara O'Brian in which she recounts her journey through schizophrenia and out of it. It's called: "Operators and Things" and it haunted me for years.

Lyrics
(Dm) There’s a man sitting on the (C) edge of my bed
He (Bb) tells me if I say he’s there I’ll (Dm) wish that I were dead
He (Bb) looks very smart in that (F) Armani suit
(C) Staring at me strangely, eating (Bb) some (A) kind of (Dm) fruit
(Dm) He maintains he’s my controller and (C) I am just a thing
Says (Bb) everybody has one, from a (Dm) peasant to a king,
Claims I’m (Bb) part of an experiment to (F) see how I react
To (C) learning my existence is not (Bb) based on (A) solid (Dm)fact
(G) Nobody can see him I (Dm) notice in the streets
Since (G) he’s been in my presence, I (Dm) feel so incomplete
I (Bb) listen to the facts he’s so (F) ready to reveal
But (C) how can I be sure that (Bb) he is (C) even (Dm) real?
(Dm) I go about my life pre(C)tending he’s not there
But (Bb) everything I do is (Dm) subject to his stare
He (Bb) doesn’t give me orders he de(F)mands that I obey
(C) But I want my life back, I (Bb) wish he’d (A) go a(Dm)way
Repeat last line

Just a note to say I finally put my song about a paranoid guy who has an invisible "controller" to music.
