STRANGERS AGAIN

We started out as strangers,
walking side by side,
Found love like a summer storm,
wide-eyed and mystified.
But seasons turn, and so did we,
beneath the same old sky,
Now we're just two passersby,
with no tears left to cry.

CHORUS:
STRANGERS AGAIN,
on this old country road,
Walking through the memories,
our dreams have all been sold.
Two strangers with their secrets,
in the cold light of day,
We lost what we once had,
it has all just slipped away.

Your laugh used to light up
my darkest nights,
Now just echoes from a time
when we both thought things were right.
We shared our hearts,
our beds, our woes,
But now we share a silence
that only grows.

CHORUS:
STRANGERS AGAIN,
on this old country road,
Walking through the memories,
our dreams have all been sold.
Two strangers with their secrets,
in the cold light of day,
We lost what we once had,
it has all just slipped away.

I thought love was forever,
thought this one was true,
But here we stand, divided,
in the morning dew.
I miss the friend, the lover,
my heart's twin flame,
Now I whisper your name to a stranger,
what a shame.

Will you ever wonder how a love
like this went wrong?
When you're wandering through life,
will you hear our song?
It was a melody of a love
that once burned so bright,
Then it became a shadow
fading into night.

CHORUS:
STRANGERS AGAIN,
on this old country road,
Walking through the memories,
our dreams have all been sold.
Two strangers with their secrets,
in the cold light of day,
We lost what we once had,
it has all just slipped away.

This has a 60s pop influence, to me. I like it! Nice job, Jerry. And thx for the comments too. Wishing you a productive and fun 5090!

Such a good example (and well crafted) pop song of nostalgia for a love lost in time. Well done. Enjoyed my listen.
Took a while but I've come to repay your kind visit a few days ago. Thanks so much for your kind words. Much appreciated

I agree with everything @gwynjones said - he said it so well! I really like how this song plays out - beautiful flow, great tempo, just the right lift for the song in the chorus, gorgeous vocals and backing vocals as always, and beautiful instrumentation. I can see why this is your new favorite!

Your lyrics always rhyme and scan so well when describing relatable scenarios with unique insight and perspective...on the other hand, your melodic choices and youthful, upbeat vocals always provide a quality pop-tinged sound that makes for some crackin' tracks...this being a prime example!

i agree with Bill needs more than a bit of steel to be country., ha ha but..... after your last song glad to have Jerry breakup back. it is indeed a good melody

i wouldnt call this country. it is more like the soft rock of the early seventies..john denver, james taylor, bread..you know those kind of guys. it is an awfully pretty songs, with one of your best melodies, and you sing it with a touch of early sixties teenage bliss.

Lovely stuff! That chorus is particularly praiseworthy, I love the way you sing ‘old country road’, sounds almost like if Paul Simon did country (did Paul Simon ever do country, I’m not sure?!). Anyway, another instant classic, you’re on fire this summer Jerry…

Oh, yes, very beautiful song, Jerry. I don't know what to do. Each song I hear on your page, instantly becomes my favourite. Then you come up with the new song. And it becomes my favourite. You keep getting higher and higher in every skill. I want to hear your songs on the radios and in movies. They are missing so much!!! This song is again, a true perfection. Your voice and playing are superb. And it's a novel in a song. Love it.

Ah, Paradise Lost in a country setting! Nicely done, Jerry. Lots of good lines, so I'll only pick out a pair for a huge hurrah:
"Found love like a summer storm,
wide-eyed and mystified."
In songs, you have to say so much with your pen in your pocket. There's a lot of story compacted into those lines.

@sbs
I hear the Beach Boys with some country steel thrown in. “Whisper your name to a stranger” - there’s a good one! I wanna hear *that* song! Lol!
