Ego Death

by @lbrewington

Liner Notes

For my twenty fifth, halfway marker song, was reflecting on the exploration of creating, what the fruits of this process could bear, how to grow fruit, what fruit is capable of being grown, and even what is fruit.

#acousticonetake

Took about two hours, a very repetitious song with the most standard of formats.

Lyrics

em d c e
there's a dream, dreamers can never dream
there's a thought, goes uncreated by man
there's a vision, seen only in the eyes of the blind
there's a noise, sung only in the sweetest of songs

am d
as the shadows dance in the silver light

bm c
trying to reach the divine tonight

am d
all my fears standing in my way

bm c am em
i just need my ego to die today

there's a science, undiscovered by the greatest of our minds
there's a meter, lies outside the planes of our time
there's a love, unexpressed by mere words
there's a gate, put in place to make you hesitate

[chorus]

there's an arrow, never aimed at the flesh of man
there's an presence, felt in the deepness of your soul
there's a lesson, only learned in the action of doing
there's a voice, holding you back and it's coming from inside

Your song appeared in my "Songs to check out" list and I couldn't resist the title -it's relatable to me. Intriguing, creative lyrics! The repetition feels contemplative and there's something of an invitation in it, a sobering invitation with serious consequences, but somehow worth the ego-death also. Or that's what I read into it 😉. Good stuff!

I like the structure, the object and explanation in the verses. And the chorus melody is enticing, too. I'm liking this one a lot.

there's an arrow, never aimed at the flesh of man...thats my favorite of so many memorable lines in this song that the key of Em was made for. i like the way the chorus breaks free from the repititions of the verse.

Moody, I like it! That's a cool filter (microphone?) you're using, I think it really adds to the vibe. Even acoustic, this feels proggy. I especially like the guitar rhythm, it's mesmerizing. And the darker melody is beautiful! Really wonderful work!
