#skirmish #pop #electronic

Couldn't do the skirmish at the time but I really liked this prompt so I did it later. Took me a while to find the groove until I found a commercial Amapiano drum loop. I used the top part and sped it up a bit and voila. Given the long time and full production ths is obviously not a skirmish product but I had fun with it so figured I'd hang it in the skirmish spot anyway.

Lyrics

Camera Ready

Verse
Comb my hair
Wash my face
Gotta be sure
Every little thing is in its place.

Straighten my tie,
Cock my hat
Hold it steady
I'm camera ready

Chorus
(Camera Ready)
Keep it in focus
(Camera Ready)
Framin' the scene
Little touch of hocus pocus
Special effects
In front of a green screen
Camera Ready

Pumped some gas,
Got some cash
Cleaned the bathroom
Took out the trash

Bottle of fine wine
Preview a good time
Got me a pedi
I'm camera ready

[Ch]

Bridge
It's good to have followers
Great to have friends
But what's really gonna sell it
Is how you come through the lens
Ya got to be

Chorus

(Camera Ready)
Keep it in focus
(Camera Ready)
When you're makin' the scene
Pitchin' that hocus pocus
Special effects make you
Look lean and mean
When you're

The whole jam is delicious. The interplay between the band and the lyrics/vocals had me imagining a collaboration by The Art of Noise and Tom Waits.
The narrator of the song maybe road weary but certainly knows how to play the game.

Unexpected vibe really made me sit up and pay attention. I totally get where @slusk is coming from with the mention of the late, great Rupert Hine (check out Hine's 'best of' album "Unshy on the Skyline" and you'll understand). The harmonies on the last line of the chorus are impeccable; man, I wish I could do that! This also reminds me of Thomas Dolby's early albums in the way it follows its own path. I really like this one.

Not bad. A personal production which draws on the artsy values from the period of Bowies Scary Monsters and Rupert Hine’s works from around 79/80. Fresh compared to today’s conformity.

EDIT: Had to listen back a day later and now it's even better!

its a very good drum loop! it all has great energy, it does feel like a photo shoot! a bit bowiesque at times.

Great production! I like the way you gave it a feel of a photoshoot in the eighties.
