Whatchoo Cryin' About?

Liner Notes

Bit weird. Came to me yesterday because I listened to Cloudbusting, and wanted to do something with strident strings. I guess it sounds a bit like "London Calling" at the very beginning, and then I'm going for something a bit Revolvery, but obviously getting lost in the tall grass. No idea what the lyrics are about, I kept trying to reference "Un Chien Andalou" somewhere. If it's good enough for Black Francis, eh?

Lyrics

You can't have my love
You're just a pale reflection
Of the woman in my eye
I'm not after love
My butterfly collection
I'll pin you to a board tonight

(Tell me what you're cryin' about)
I don't know baby
I've no idea
no no no

You're not right for love
But maybe vivisection
I want to see the things inside
Your can't have my love
I offer stern correction
in the middle of the night

(Tell me what you're cryin' about)
I don't know
I've never known
Makes no sense to me

(Tell me what you're cryin' about)
I didn't notice
Are these things tears?
No no no no no

We've made this bed so we will lie in it
We've made this bed so we will lie and lie
We've made this bed so we will die in it
We've made this bed so we will die and die
and die and die and die

You're not right for love
You're just a pale reflection
just a pale reflect-i--o--n

I was so busy re-familiarising myself with all those cultural references that I nearly passed over the brilliant lyrics - which feel somewhere between J Alfred Prufrock and the Marquis de Sade (sorry for introducing further cultural refs). There’s something about the slightly disconnected train of the lines that really works in the context of a narrator who basically sounds like a sociopath. Anyway, that’s the words, I love the music too. Deffo Cloudbusting strings (Spitfire, right? They sound gorgeous throughout). Beautiful verse melody, and then love the change up into the Revolver-esque chorus. Bridge is great too. Really enjoyed this one, on many levels.

got a bit of a beetles feel. Nice voice great range. The change in Rhythm in the verse chorus and bridge are so effective. This is a very nice track.

the rhythm is like cloudbusting at first with the strings, but the same rhythm is like london calling. funny how he same music can reference two such opposite songs. but the melodies and lyrics resemble neither of those songs. i searched and searched byt could find n alusion tot he bunuel/dali film. perhaps the tears that are not tears (maybe they fell from an empty socket)

Nice delivery sounds like you have put quiet a bit of work into this one, Not sure the posted lyric relates to the those in the demo? Thanks for sharing.
