Boundaries. Where do you draw the line?

Lyrics

I draw the line
At standing up to the powers
A fight like that
Might take me hours

I control my time
Keep my head down
You’ve got to master your attention
Before you school the town

You can’t fight City Hall
You can’t fight Daryl Hall
You can’t fight Arsenio Hall
You can’t fight any Hall at all

If they’ve got a whole big hall
And you’re just Joe
With a hole in the wall
I hate to break it to you
But the way I see it
They’ve already
Got you

I am a wizard
I’ve taken the wizard’s oath
You can have everything you want
Or justice but you can’t have both

It’s a hall of mirrors
The way they set up the fight
They want you to believe
That you’re doing what’s right

But you can’t fight City Hall
You can’t fight Daryl Hall
You can’t fight Arsenio Hall
You can’t fight any Hall at all

If they’ve got a whole big hall
And you’re just Joe
With a hole in the wall
I hate to break it to you
But the way I see it
They’ve already
Got you

Wizardry power
Hour by hour
Wizardry power
Hour by hour
Wizardry power
Hour by hour
Wizardry power

You can’t fight City Hall
You can’t fight Daryl Hall
You can’t fight Arsenio Hall
You can’t fight any Hall at all

You can’t fight City Hall
You can’t fight Daryl Hall
You can’t fight Arsenio Hall
You can’t fight any Hall at all

You can’t fight City Hall
You can’t fight Daryl Hall

Had to give this a listen with that title. This is great fun! Daryl's a force of nature, it's true.

(Robert Fripp's recent and ridiculous 32-disc "Exposures" box set includes Hall's original version of his "Sacred Songs" album as it was before the record company got at it, and it's stunning; not what I expected at all.)

Terrific title, and those first lines ("I draw the line / at standing up to the powers") isn't a sentiment heard often in songs. It's very relatable (and a bit of a breath of fresh air to be presented here). The choruses are of course a bit of a (very amusing) lark, but the verses actually reflect a mental space that's all too easy to sink into. It's all a very interesting juxtaposition!

well done , sir

Love that title! Creative, and an "outside the lines" write for sure (as an aside, my wife just took me to see one of here favorite artists, Elvis Costello. He was opening for Daryl Hall, which I didn't really understand. We didn't stay for Daryl). Nice strong playing and singing.

The title and chorus got a laugh out of me. (I can fight John Oates though, right? I know I can eat Quaker Oats for breakfast.)

I was a bit surprised by the sincere twist of:
"I’ve taken the wizard’s oath
You can have everything you want
Or justice but you can’t have both"

Good skirmish!
