Marimba Dream

Liner Notes

Finished this one off this morning. Was doing more 'patch surfing' last night on the Fantom and came across a Marimba which I really liked, put down a basic rhythm with it and the rest blossomed from there. One of the things I really enjoy about putting together a track like this is working out what instruments to use, what will fit and what will not....and sometimes they aren't things that would traditionally sit together.

Used to make this track:
Reaper DAW
Fantom sounds, Marimba, Drums, Shine Pad, ModW Inst Trance (?!), Tine Mk1 Trem electric piano, Oboe
Native Instruments Glaze vst

I'm all for things that wouldn't traditionally sit together. 😀
That Marimba is very nice indeed, and you've created a gorgeous, slightly mysterious atmosphere around it.
This piece is relaxing without being soporific. I could see it as part of the soundtrack to an adventure game with riddle solving.

Those sweeping pads are gorgeous. I especially enjoyed the glaze and electric piano together around 1:30. Very soothing track

@sbs
Love the Marimba! Yes, I love creating/gathering sounds and arranging them all to work together. That is the best part!

Woooo marimba!!! Ya this one is really cool too. So many wonderful textures. Feels like I could case a bank or a casino to this. Or plan breaking out of spy prison. Really lovely

@songwritingzen it does sound like Mad World! In listening again I realise it also sounds like the opening of Biko by Peter Gabriel, I love both songs, we are influenced so !ich by what we love....

I enjoy the process of layering, too. A lot, as you've probably already noticed. So I love listening to how other FAWMers approach it. You've certainly struck gold with the combination here! That oboe was unexpected, but it's the perfect choice for the part. Sounds like you're having plenty of fun with your new toy!

The atmosphere you've created with this tune is very cool indeed. The percussion track reminds me of the backing for Tears For Fears "Mad World" Loving it :)
