Hail, heroes! I return with my second song of the 50/90 challenge. This is "Spotless," the tale of an estranged sibling (who may or may not be a shapeshifting dragon) who has to face their brother in battle repeatedly because the powers that be keep wiping his brother's memories and sending him back out to slay the dragon.

Lyrics

Well, go on, then
Try to appeal to my twisted sense of honor
You in your spotless armor

Get some wear and tear
Put some dents and cracks and rust on it
Your twenty mile stare, then come talk to me

In the green patina of your stomach and your envy
I can still see my reflection, and one of us is dreaming

Ah, diametrically opposed
Oh, the door is always closing
Ah, wipe your memories again
If it works to keep you holding on
If it works to keep you holding on

Well, go ahead
Tell your friends I’m not what they thought I was
Monger all the fear you want

If I am your dragon, best be mindful of the fire
Breathing deep inside the cool of the cave
Offer up a princess every year to keep me happy
You’ll never see a carcass
And you won’t believe the reason

Ah, explosions in the midnight sky
Ah, lock yourself up in your palace
Well, it’s not for lack of trying
It’s not for lack of trying

Once you were my brother
Now you volley cannon fodder
And it doesn’t pierce my skin
But it breaks my beating
Heart’s not really in it
You’re not made for killing
But it kills me when I realize how far apart we are

Ah, I don’t want to be your foe
But the door is always closing
Ah, wipe your memories again
If it helps to keep you going
If it helps to keep you holding on

Some interesting lines.

I just finished listening to an audiobook section on the character Turin in Tolkiens Silmarillion. It has a sister slain by her brother, a life lost to erased memories, and a dragon. I didn’t like his version of the story, so this reclaimed it a bit for me. Thank you.
As for your story, the part about the princesses, and the carcasses was fantastic. The whole picture you have created of this character is very compelling.

You're a consistently good songs. You write a lot of them. I need to really catch up I only have five on this thing so far this 590. I only have what 45 left to go you have what five left to go.

@bunga
What lyrics! And the soaring melody makes all of those 50 cent words flow easily and naturally. Really love this one.

I like the contrast of percussive guitar in the verse and the open strumming in the chorus. Let's it open up while you also expand the vocal melody, which is grate. Really cool lyrical idea. Great performance.

Those fast sung lines next to the long "Ah" notes work so well. Lovely song.

Just beautiful. I love the vocals so much. Solid guitar playing, too!

Again a great vocal! You are reminding me of Suzanne Vega, which I think is a good thing.

A true living novel's tale! Witty write with a whole lot of story fun, clarity, and entertainment. Dig the guitar play and your vocal delivery.

Fantastic vocal delivery, and the narrative is so strong and can also be applied to multiple other kinds of relationships. Really nice!
