This brings to my mind a funhouse dystopic nightmare of an cubicle farm, eagerly gnashing its metaphorical jaws to take in, chew up and spit out the next generation of eager, desperate workers. Scary, but compelling!

sounds like traffic jam moderated by a drum. but i suppose it could be the anxiety of patients waiting with the drum calling out for the next patient a.and the next...and the next.
