Lyrics

(Em) It's been many years now (D) since she went a(Em)way
But I find myself thinking of her (D) nearly every (Em) day
(G) Wondering how my (D) life would be
If we'd (C) never had to (Em) part
I (Bm) wish I could forget her
My (C) long lost counterpart
But she's got the (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart

The (Am) skeleton key to my (Em) heart
The (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart
(G) She can still get (D) into me and (C) still tear me a(Em)part
Like she's got the (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart

(Em) Thinking of her daily (D) feels like a bet(Em)rayal
Of my darling wife, whose (D) love has never (Em) failed
(G) This is my dirty (D) secret I can (C) never to her im(Em)part
I (Bm) know that it would hurt her (C) like a poisoned dart
That there's a (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart

CHORUS

(Em) I'm a fool to blame her she (D) doesn't even (Em) know
She's probably forgotten me (D) many years a(Em)go
It's (G) all in my (D) mind this image (C) tearing me a(Em)part
It's (Bm) just a twisted fantasy, (C) just a work of art
There is no (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart
There is no (G) skeleton (D) key to my (Em) heart

Ah I love a song with twist! Great write and the music works so well with the lyrics. The little (but big) change at the end - Well done.

Oh, that ending is awesome! Great concept for this song, a great example of your great turns of phrase and catchy melodies. Very relatable. It's human nature.

This is a very catchy tune and one that people could easily sing along and play to, which is always a great thing for a song to encourage people to do. I like the way you keep the melody and rhythm driving to its conclusive statement.

An awesome melody sing by a deep lush voice weaving lovely lovely words, I think this has opened my heart too. It's amazing how some people and feelings have power over us even after a long time

This was immediately evocative to me of a sea shanty, both in the apparent jauntiness of the lyric juxtaposed against the darker lyrics, and the "singability" I envision this would have on a crowded sailing ship's deck. Really enjoyed this.
