#lovesong

Not sure what tag to call this musically? I promised my girlfriend that I'd write a straight up love song after the last few having lyrics that had some dark edges so this is my attempt at something pretty and heartfelt, hopefully without sounding too twee.
I tried to play with the fact that when you're in love, even the dirty ugly things in life don't seem to matter as much.

I nailed all of this first takes except for the bass which I had to piece together a bit so it was a pleasure to record. I started it last night and wasn't that sure about it and then woke up early and added some seasoning and it all ended up sounding pretty cool (IMHO).

Lyrics

Chapter 1 has so much promise,
All mapped out and to be honest,
We never really want for anything.
The same dirty backdrop,
Waiting at a bus stop,
Watching the drunks fall about and get into fights.

But all I see when I’m falling in love
It’s all i hear when I’m falling in love
I see stars
I hear birds

But all you feel when you’re falling in love
It’s all you hear when you’re falling in love
You feel warmth
You hear songs.

Then sleep...

It’s been half a year but only just a moment,
I still get butterflies and feel excitement,
I want all of you and your components,
The start of chapter 2,
Is just me and you…

Ropey old weather,
But you never mind it,
With you on a Saturday night,
Walking then dancing,
Walking and dancing,
Walking then dancing,
Walking and dancing.

Then sleep...

Beautiful start with the guitars and I LOVE bass like that. Oh my this is a wonderfully paced and melodic song with a vibe that I just adore. Very well done

music is everything when writing silly love songs, and your music here is so enveloping. wrapping oneself up in it can almost make what feel what it is to ne in love. that bass is so warm, the guitars so joyful, and the voice both relaxed and filled with positive energy.

Good write. Guess I never been in love when it's like that. There's a German term for this kind of blindness: rosarote Brille (= rose coloured glasses). Musically I enjoyed the instrumentation a lot

I like this a lot, for several reasons. It's sentimental and romantic while firmly in the real world of drunks and bus shelters and rain. Starting out with 'Chapter One' set me up for failed love in 'Chapter Two' (I listened before reading) so it was a nice surprise to have it carry on in a newer but still happy place. Also, the instrumentation, especially the guitar ostinato on the Major 7th and the melodic bass line - so soothing, in keeping with the sentiments. Lovely vocal harmonies. The last four lines before the repeat are a gem of concise imagery, and the title is great.
