Choose Your Own Adventure Self Help Book

Liner Notes

this is a semi improvised noise jam.

i started by finding a drum loop and then jamming on the bass a little bit. then i started adding guitars. then i laid down some of these vocals. then i replaced the drum loop with me playing the drum. parts on a midi keyboard.

the "lyrics" are some old stand up comedy ideas that never really hit that hard, even though i think they're pretty funny. i pulled these out of the notes app on my phone.

this is definitely more of a b-side or deep album cut. i was not interested in worrying about a catchy chorus (there isn't one) or memorable riffs.

sometimes i get so worried about writing catchy songs, i forget that as a listener i'm a huge fan of the deep cuts, the noise jams, and the weird experimental b-sides that have no hit single potential. so this is meant to be that.

#noise #grunge #comedy

Lyrics

it's weird when people are driving convertibles
but they're still wearing hats
do you want your head covered or not?
make up your mind!

well?!

i just bought a preowned air freshener
it has that used car smell
mmmm!

i almost went to the aquarium
but i bought a fish tank instead
it's the same thing!

i'm reading a choose your own adventure
self help book
it's blank!

Really dig it, lots of chaos and cool sounds!

Love your guitar tones here. The dissonant guitar parts against that huge bass line is perfect. Love this

I really appreciate this. I know it's about the music here, but I SO appreciate the images along with the music. It transported me to another time, and also, I feel like it tells a story.

Music-wise, I like that you get wild. I feel the grungy vibe of the images' timeframe. As simple as this could be, I think it could also be profound. What is art, if not a mirror?

I actually really like your "deep cuts, the noise jams, and the weird experimental b-sides".
I'm loving those guitar freakout bits.
Yeah, guitar freakouts for the win.

This seems like a Man or Astro-man number on Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

It's random and wild and infectious. I see where @danxduran and @sarahk are coming from, but personally I think I'm more hearing Fred Schneider's slightly more droll cousin fronting a particularly demented surf band. But whatever comparisons one might make, what's constant is that this is an offbeat good time!

If Frank Zappa fronted Nirvana

Totally nostalgic song for me. Love the vein you've been writing in lately. Cool.

I so enjoyed this! In a world of disaster and awfulness, a bit of grungy noise and absurd humor and trippy tv ads was such a delightful reprieve. I'm getting Stephen Wright humor and Nirvana musicality. You're inspiring me to play with creating, not follow formulas all the time! Great job.
