Liner Notes

My umpteenth lament

Lyrics

Are you growing bigger everyday?
I am growing impatient now
I am becoming incompetent

So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I've outgrown this shirt
So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I haven't overcome my fears

What have I got?
I'm a jack in the box
And I've tried all the tricks in the book
And you've glued shut
So now I talk to myself
I used to say things so wise
People thought I was right

So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I've outgrown this shirt
So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I haven't overcome my fears

Are you growing to like this song?
Are you growing to like this song?
Have you even come this far?
Am I still worth your time?
Do you still care bout me?
Am I still worth your time?
Am I even worth mine?

So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I've outgrown this shirt
So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I haven't overcome my fears

Am I just someone, who only wants attention
But the only attention I get
Always makes me regret
Not doing something better than this
Growing crops but not growing trees
And building tree houses to live in

So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I've outgrown this shirt
So I'm trying, to find someone to blame
For why I haven't overcome my fears

I like how his lyric takes an ordinary event that a shirt does not fit, and turns it into an analogy exploring personal growth progress.

The shirt is a potent focal point for coming to grips with unexpected and inexplicable changes. The verses really capture the moment and the feeling.

There's a T. S. Eliot like element to these lyrics - I'm reminded of the love song of J.Alfred Prufrock. The juxtaposition of the mundane with the profound. Works very nicly here. :-)

There's a lot going on in these lyrics! Lots of good ideas to ponder. I know all about outgrowing clothes, sadly. Thanks for posting
