Liner Notes

It’s been almost a week since I lost my voice, and I still can’t sing, which is very frustrating. Happened across this skirmish and had to put a twist on the “soppy love song” brief. #lyricsonly alas

Lyrics

Darling, I love you, but something is dripping
I cherish you dearly, but wait just a sec
A hard rain will fall, though ideally outside
And here in the kitchen, our socks are all wet
The sugar’s dissolved, the humidity’s wrong
This must be the soppiest love song

It looks like the ceiling burst over the bed
The pillows are drowning in place
Upstairs, our neighbor’s abandoned his bath
A waterfall’s out on the fire escape
The H20 dripping just keeps flowing on, that
Makes this the soppiest love song

BRIDGE
The day that we married was hot, it was dry
As Kansas so often becomes, mid-July
Days since, the odd thundercloud sweeps 'cross the sky
Other times floodwater threatens to rise
Some storms will blow over, some nights someone cries

Now I’ll steady you while you pull on your boots
Let’s roll up our pants and go wading
Nothing this thrilling has washed over us
Since May 94, when we first started dating
It’s gone out the door, now a lake’s on the lawn
And this is the soppiest love song

This is the soupiest,
Lit’rally soggiest,
Drippiest, soppiest
Love song

I’m feeling swamped, but I’ll go with the flow
Come hell or high water, I love you the most

I hope your voice comes back soon, and I'm sure you've got a tune in mind for this fine lyric. Touching, humbling and evocative.... goodness May 1994, I was living a totally different life then! Excellent write 😊
