#children
This FAWM has felt so hard for me to get started. My feelings are all over the place with the state of the world we’re living in. I’m a full time nursery teacher and a mom of two young girls. I’m an American living in Japan. Every day the news just makes me so upset. I realize that what’s most important to me is helping to shape the young children I teach and raise into good people. I don’t want to impose my beliefs on them, but hope they will have the awareness and self reflection to see and feel what’s right for them.

This isn’t a great tune, but I wrote it with that in my mind. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to write anything.

Lyrics

Look out look in
Look out look in
Look out look in
And see what you can see

There’s ups and downs
There’s ups and downs
And ups and downs
And sometimes in betweens

There’s black and white and brown and gray and rainbow colors as far as the eye can see

Look out look in
Look up look down
Look everywhere
And be where you want to be

Hi Kate! It’s nice to hear you sing and play again. Catchy melody and making light of the situation in the world for the kids. Definitely a fun one! :)

This is a great song for children. Catchy and simple melody, upbeat chords. Simple concepts of distinction and suggestions to be inclusive and aware. Really nice message. Very good, Kate!

And don't feel shy about "imposing" your beliefs, but obviously you'll do it in a subtle way that instead of hitting them over the head with a virtual hammer, encourages them to open their minds and be empathetic and compassionate. I would want my kids (if I had any) to have you be their teacher.

This really does sound like a classic kids' song – I can just imagine a bunch of young voices singing along. It's a lovely message, too. Thank you for the important work you do <3

This song does a great job of describing the process of taking in the world and reflecting and really keeping an open mind about the world and it's complexities in a non-condescending way. Really cool listen from start to finish. The music and melody have a nice hook complimented by your lovely singing voice.

Well this is a pleasant surprise! I think I watch listed you over 10 years ago and thought you'd dropped off the face of the earth. This is a really cute tune. The lyrics are simple but really sweet, and the melody is fantastic. I could listen to this on a loop for about an hour

What I love about your writing, Kate, is how you play with melody. I can see you singing this to your kids - an open and honest assessment of the world, themselves, and the dance of the two. You haven't missed a beat but we miss you over here! Keep on writing!

I can relate to a chunky FAWM start... I've put some stuff out there just to do it, but nothing to write home about. This on the other hand is really fun and poppy. I like the chorus, it is super hooky. The driving guitar lick goes very well and moves this forward. Nice!
