I was just reading about the pollinating insects that are often on the leaves throughout winter and I didn't want a FAWM day to go by without writing a song (until work next week when it'll likely be unavoidable.) So here's this.

Lyrics

Be wary of where you step through the Winter
There are critters sleeping all around
Hiding in the hibernating foliage
Pollinators hiding on the ground

If you like the flowers in our yards
If you like the apples in the trees
Help us save the pollinating insects
Help us save the butterflies in the leaves
Help us save the butterflies in the leaves

Don't mow your grass until spring time
Help save all the pollinating pests
Hiding in the cast of vegitation
Just like pollinators.org suggests

If you like the flowers in our yards
If you like the apples in the trees
Help us save the pollinating insects
Help us save the butterflies in the leaves
Help us save the butterflies in the leaves

A good take on the subject matter: the uke lends it a fey quality which speaks to little natural wonders like butterflies and flowers, and the soft-rock vocal brings it back to our level and tells us what we (comparatively) big people can do to keep them safe - for their sake and our own. 'The butterflies in the leaves' is a picturesque little phrase; the sort of thing illustrated children's books are made of.

I like how you take the mouthful of "pollinators" and give it some rhythmic verve - not easy to make that catchy, but you do! Timely song. Down my way, we had a worrying population crash of butterflies, bees etc. last summer.

Okay so this song is adorable and it’s put a massive smile on my face. I’ve learned things too!

I did not know there were pollinating insects. Now I'm gonna have to look it up and watch my step! This is a cute (and educational) song. Nice topic. Is that a uke? Better #fuc !

You speak for the pollinators! Very sweet little song about a crucial aspect of our ecosystems. Thank you for the reminder to not mow the grass until springtime. Great ukulele as usual :)

Great subject for a song, and gets the info across in a catchy way. My neighbor taught me you can also plant milkweed to help feed them.
