Liner Notes

Last week @unknownbecky suggested we write about somewhere warm for today's #SongSidekickSongCircle

True love is hard work is a recurring theme in my songs, in my life, and in my advice to friends about the rough parts of their relationships.

Lyrics

It’s February, and I’m tired of the slushy sidewalks
February, I’m tired of the bitter cold

Would you go somewhere warm again with me
Somewhere that you’d still like to see
How long can this last
I’m almost scared to ask
Could you go somewhere warm again with me

If you wanted, we could both get off our islands
We could thaw out, maybe make something to eat

Would you go somewhere warm again with me
Somewhere you’d still like to be
How long can this last
Am I too scared to ask
Could you go somewhere warm again with me

I know I froze you out for a couple seasons
Silent nights, rehashing all my reasons

But would you go somewhere warm again with me
Somewhere where we both still long to be
How long can we last
If we stay too scared to ask
Will you go somewhere warm again with me

In the car or at the table, in the bedroom by and by
Let's find a way, let's turn back on the sun

Could you go somewhere warm again with me?
Can you come somewhere warm again with me?

What a pretty song! I am loving the girl-with-a-guitar folk stylings of this so much! Your vocals are lovely! Sincere. Heartfelt. Honest. I love the weather as a metaphor for the human condition while also very much appreciated the literal call for some place warm! Been cold up here north of Chicago for awhile now! I love this song, Nancy!!

@n24
Something warm is much needed! I have been suffering with the bitter cold these last months. I needed this song! I'm loving the gentle folk lull, it conveys longing perfectly and the strumming pattern creates a nice steady bass line which I'm really enjoying! I love the gentle turn into the weather being a possible reflection for a period of winter frost in a relationship, such a beautiful metaphor.

“If you wanted, we could both get off our islands”… oooh those words hit. There’s a wistful quality to this song and that island lilt. Really nice.

A warm voice with a warm invitation. I was pulled right into your imagery.
Really enjoyed this!

Such a beautiful song, Nancy. I do love how you sing and play - your voice captures all the emotion of your lyrics. I enjoyed your use of the weather as a metaphor for the lows and hopeful highs. I wanted the characters 'turn back on the sun'

Perfect song for a relationship feeling rocky. Your lyrics capture the situation, and your singing is so pure. Good song.

Cool idea of a relationship freezing up as the weather cools down...and the remedy being returning to a warm place together. The vocal melody of the title line is an ear worm.

I thank you for the feedback on my songs. This song was my first listen of yours. I love it! I think we all feel that moment in the Winter where we just want to pack up and go anywhere...but, where we are. Your vocals were beautiful too

"Silent nights, rehashing all my reasons" is such a good line. Obviously love the double meaning on the temperature throughout and the opening line is a great setup. Very relatable subject matter, and very vulnerable, which makes it all the more great. Also really like the line "In the car or at the table, in the bedroom by and by"

This has a gorgeous feel to it, and your performance and arrangement really bring out the chill/warmth switch between the verses and choruses. I'm certainly looking forward to getting somewhere warm again before too long. Nice write 👌

Just love the vibes of your music Nancy, it always warms us even when it's not on the topic of warmth. I love the "get off our own islands" line, and the second verse that extends the metaphor. Lovely write.

Great lyrics and meaning, very honest. You remind me of a friend who always felt conflicted about love. Very real, almost tangible, great imagery in the lyrics.

I loved this so much, I had to go back for a second listen. Truly great song, one of my favourites I've heard so far this month. You grabbed me with the line "slushy sidewalks" and the story telling through the lyrics kept me captivated. Very cool indeed.

Yes means so much literally and with the metaphor in the Northern winter time. Nothing worse than winter time with one of your favourite people. Great song Nancy. Thanks for the collab last year with You are known to be Evil. Let me know if you're interested in another collab or have the time.

Nancy. You had me at “slushy sidewalks.” 😊
This is lovely and profound. Bob Dylan-esque.
“Will you go somewhere warm again with me” is such an excellent phrase describing attempting to rehabilitate a relationship. And with a beautiful, simple melody that complements the lyrics. You go about setting the scene with vivid imagery that enhances our knowledge of the relationship. And then you top it off with a great hook. This is not an easy thing to do. You did it. Very well done!!

Thanks so much for commenting on my song! I really like your voice and lyrics

So glad to hear your work again, Nancy! I love the sound of this, you've got a little country in your voice since the last time I heard you. And the structure is really interesting with the short verses and longer chorus, the shift in the bridge, and the move from "i'm scared to ask" to "if we stay too scared to ask". Like this a lot!

Real nicely done Nancy. Your delivery feels authentic and heartfelt. It has an intimate feel, particularly with your soft vocal delivery. Enjoyed listening...

Wonderful melody and storytelling! Fantastic hook. Very relatable. Fortunately we have FAWM to get over our snowy winter blues. Well done!

I love the levels of meaning in this - so much bigger than just going to a tropical destination for a few days. This really brings back nostalgic feelings for seaside vacations that were more about reconnecting with my partner than sun and water. Lovely.

I almost want to give this one a standing ovation. I think there are two things that stand out for me. Firstly, the melody on the ‘would you go somewhere warm again with me’ is so pure and simple, like the best ones, and secondly the way you deliver it really communicates the vulnerability and passion that are both explicit and beneath the surface of the lyrics. Chuck in the hypnotic down stroke strum and you’ve got a real winner. Well done, Nancy!

Wonderful song! As most of us I can relate to the lyrics.
But, to be honest, the first two lines are two thoughts i think many times during the day in this winter! And I wish there would be somebody who takes me on a sunny place far away from cold and nasty Germany!

Comeing back to your song: again your voice sounds so good - powerful but also vulnerable!

Another great song!

this is a fantastic song with a totally original way of suggesting a relationship be rekindled. i think the cooling off syndrome is a universal one, and one that is difficult to address. the title of this song is such a brilliant way of broaching the subject. get this on the radion and goodbye to the seven year itch. couples would be falling back into bed with each other by the millions. thank you nancy, for this humanitarian work.

A really sweet tune, I'm definitely feeling this yearning right now as Canada recieved a fresh blanket of snow. Love the third stanza lyric and charming delivery on the uke!
