Lyrics

INTRO (Bb) (C) (F) x2

(F) "Dear Darling", it started
"I love you..." it went on
"But I think things have come to a (C) head
What happened to the passion?
What happened to the fun
We both used to have in our (F) bed?

(Bb) Where is the lass I married
(F) Where did she go?
She has (Bb) changed beyond all recog(F)nition
That loving atmosphere we had in our home
Has (C) changed to a war of at(F)trition

(F) You've become so obsessive
With keeping things clean
You invent rules from Monday to (C) Friday
'This goes here, that goes there!'
You were never like that
Now we clash over the meaning of (F) tidy?"

CHORUS

(F) I had a stamp on the letter
When my bags were all packed
And a ticket for the Holyhead (C) boat
I was going home to Ireland
When I stopped at the door
Unpacked my suitcase and took off my (F) coat

My (Dm) anger now all but (Am) spent
I burned the (Bb) letter I never (F) sent
Never (Dm) tell her of that missive
Nor (Am) put her on the scent
Of the (Bb) letter that I (C) never (F) sent
The (Bb) letter I (C) never (F) sent

very clever lyric right down to playing to the listener. a clever twist on story often told.

Very nice lyrics, especially the way you wrap the story up with verse 3 and the bridge. Look forward to hearing it when you have music for it!

immediately thought of Kate Bush Babooshka. I think this was very well written, especially the twist in the end. The places and mundane things make it very real.

Sounds like the character worked it out--or maybe just enough of it--just by the letter writing. Now that he's burned the letter I'll never rat him out to his wife. I love that ending!! Funny with just enough truth to be told
