How You See Me

by @karahermann

Liner Notes

Inspired by my sweet husband after a meltdown Saturday night - he always knows what to say.

Not sure about song title, originally it was "I am who I am" but it didn't feel like it fit. Still a work in a progress!

Lyrics

V1:
You know me better than anyone in this world
The way you love me is more than I deserve
Couldn’t put my finger on it but now I see
The secret sauce - You don’t try to fix me

Chorus
I am who I am
But sometimes i wish I wasn’t
I hate to admit it but it’s true
I’m done talking to myself
About being someone else
I’m gonna try to see me the way you do
Sure glad you see me the way you do

V2:
Sometimes I feel like its more than I can take
You talk me back down and help me put on the brakes
When I feel I'm not good enough
You have a way of saying all the right stuff

Bridge:
I do my best to not dwell in the past
But sometimes I do
It doesn’t matter what I’m going through
I’ll always have you

Well, great - ignore what I said on the earlier version about don't try to fix me phrase....This feels pretty done to me. Still so lovely and sincere. I love the way you sing, and the rhythm of that chorus is really catchy. If you wanted in the chorus, the first time you sing it you could say "I've done a lot of talking to myself" and then the last time when you said "I'm all done talking to myself" it might feel even more like a big change from the past. Some people don't believe in changing the chorus at all, but I think a little word here or there can be super powerful.

This song came out great! I really like the addition of the second verse and the bridge. A real celebratory song of having a partner who is so supportive and working on seeing the best in ourselves where we are right now. Great vocals - and wonderful country style phrasing and tone. What a lovely song - thank you for letting me hear the finished product.

Beautiful country song! I especially love the line “I’m gonna try to see me the way you do.” The delivery of it is perfect, and it’s such a wonderful sentiment.

Such a lovely hook line in that chorus - real sentiment. Great country sequence vibes in your vocal. BTW - how many Ukes??
