Liner Notes

This song is for a friend who lost her husband on a beautiful, sunny day in September. It came to me with no warning. Yes, I'm close to tears singing it.

I would appreciate comments that do not ask any additional questions about the inspiration, as that's really not my place to discuss. Thank you for understanding.

Lyrics

Capo 3

(G Em E7 C D)

V1
G
It’s that day again
Em Em7
The one that brings you so much pain
C G
I hear you wishing it away
G
It’s the time before
Em Em7
That caused your heart to be so sore
C D
I hear you wishing you could say

V2
I wish I knew
How to help you through
It’s always going to happen every year
But I send you lots of hope
To help your heart to cope
With the coming of the day so near

CHORUS
C
I wish you rain
D G Em
To heal your aching heart
C
I wish you clouds
D G Em
To cover up the sky
C D
I hold you in my heart
G Em
As the day comes around
C
And I wish you well
D G
In telling it goodbye

(G Em E7 C D)

V3
The loss is forever
And no one can ever
Change it back to how it used to be
I know you remember
And every September
It’s going to be a day that you can’t flee

(So)

CHORUS

(G Em E7 C D)

V4
You’ve healed to your scar
And still, there you are
Tougher and stronger than you were
It’s never quite gone
And always you’re drawn
To the grieving that this day will never cure

(But)

CHORUS

OUTTRO
C
I wish you well
D Em Em7
In telling it goodbye
C
I wish you well
D G
In telling it goodbye

(G Em E7 C D G)

Nice (bravely sung) melody. I've written a couple of songs in the past where I choke up a bit when I sing parts but I find it can be quite cathartic - songs with raw emotion are always the best.
