This was for the 'infodump' skirmish, but my old recipe for chocolate babka took me somewhere very different.

Lyrics

Perhaps Tomorrow
Jemma Kline

It’s after midnight, and she’s still shaking,
And I know I’ll soon be cooking by myself.
Warm up the oven for nighttime baking;
Perhaps tomorrow we will find that all is well.

Heat up the water, then yeast goes in.
Mix in the flour, rest in a tin.
Chop up some butter and chocolate chips.
Roll it together, she’ll rise again.

Outside the window, the stars are shining,
Signs the two of us will always be in love,
But we were fighting for half the evening,
And we are not the ones the stories tell you of.

Heat up the water, then yeast goes in.
Mix in the flour, rest in a tin.
Chop up some butter and chocolate chips.
Roll it together, she’ll rise again.

(flute)
Twenty minutes at three-fifty; not enough to ensure we'll find our way.

Heat up the water, then yeast goes in.
Mix in the flour, rest in a tin.
Chop up some butter and chocolate chips.
Roll it together, she’ll rise again.

What a beautiful song about a relatable moment, both the smaller story of the babka and the larger story of the difficult night with a partner. The phrase "she’ll rise again" is a lovely way to tie the two together.

a song and i get a recipe as well. Lovely piano holds it all together and intertwined with a relationship, nicely done oh and the flute is a nice touch

Mixing the baking receipt with relationship trouble is such a cute idea. Every line, every word gets a double meaning and leaves us guessing whether we're discussing one, or the other, or both. It reminds me of Mike + The Mechanics' "Another Cup of Coffee", where the singer hides trouble behind a mundane task like brewing coffee.

I really like the way you intersperse the telling of the recipe with the relationship story. The piano is beautiful and also the instrument that comes in at 1:50.
These lines were a real standout to me: 'But we were fighting for half the evening,
And we are not the ones the stories tell you of.'
