Why Walk Out On Me?

“Why Walk Out On Me?” - #fawm 50/90 2024 song 45

I remember feeling really frustrated last summer when I wrote these lyrics because the skirmish prompt was something about writing a new version of a song that has been the number one hit in our birth month, or something like that, and I ended up with a disco song that I didn’t know to emulate — and I don’t usually write disco. I tried to follow the structure and theme of the song and still felt kind of frustrated after writing my lyrics, but posted them anyway and pledged to someday finish the song.

Today was that day! It isn’t really a disco song anymore, but it’s still been fun to work on and I pushed myself to do something unusual (for me) with the rhythm and melody. That E7 in there may need to change but I’m kinda digging this draft.

7 lyric drafts left to finish from 2023…

Lyrics

Why walk out on me?
Want me to cry, need me to die
For something should be free?
Why walk out on me?
To prove a point, to kill the joint
You flip a coin to see?

Ohhhh….. Listen! I’m up to here with your excuses
I’m not gonna beg for you to find the follow through
You made a promise you can’t keep?
I’m not about to turn my head and weep
It’s up to you to make it good
I may be handy but won’t fix the things you should
Things you should, things you should

Go ‘head, walk out on me,
Don’t you expect I’ll be a wreck
Slip through the door
Just walk about on me
I’ll be all right, I’ll last the night
Saw what you’re good for

Ohhhh….. Listen! I’m up to here with your excuses
I’m not gonna beg for you to find the follow through
You made a promise you can’t keep?
I’m not about to turn my head and weep
It’s up to you to make it good
I may be handy but won’t fix the things you should
Things you should, things you should

We were good but I will say goodbye
And I’m not gonna cry

Darling, darling, as you recall
Didja tell yourself a lie?

Why walk out on me? (why walk out on me?)

If you wanna be the hero, go ahead and be (go ahead and be)…

Running for the exit, that’s no way to be (that’s no way to be)…

Why, why, why, why why ...would you walk out on me
Why walk out on me?
Why walk out on me?

Very nice to listen to. Lots of strength in the performance and the lyrics. Also great vocal phrasing.

With all that spunk and strength in the melody I feel sorry for that dude. Glad the song got finished.

Good emotional honesty coming through here, and love your voice! Strong title and cool lifting melody. Very nice job!
