This is a response to #badsongclub62 "Hair on Fire".

I felt like this one needed #dorian mode.

Lyrics

Lady Lilac
Jemma Kline

I’ve watched you dancing through the garden,
Beauty at my feet,
Atop your stems that slowly harden,
Flowers smelling sweet.

My Lady Lilac,
Please grow with care.
The summer’s calling,
The sky’s so bare.

The winds will carry in the warning,
Woodsmoke on the breeze,
For branches dried through night and morning
Kindle in the heat.

My Lady Lilac,
Please grow with care.
The summer’s calling,
The sky’s so bare.

You feel the call,
To join it all,
To let your crown
Come burning down.

My Lady Lilac,
Please grow with care.
The summer’s calling,
The sky’s so bare.

Gorgeous imagery and I love that dorian mode! I especially like the line "the sky's so bare".

@kahlo2013 I think you'll appreciate this as a lyricist: I wrote the lyrics while on a plane (sticking to the Bad Song Club time limits), with no access to my usual go-to rhyming dictionary. I had this concept of trees on fire, but I also wanted to use the title 'Lady'. Couldn't think of a single tree that started with L, wasting 5 precious minutes in doing so, and I couldn't get lilacs out of my head, so lilac bushes it was. Completely changed the imagery in the song. Funny how that works sometimes.

I really like this ballad! I don’t think it fits the bad song club at all, but it does a great job with the prompt. The melody is gorgeous!

Such vivid imagery. The melody and chord progression are really strong. Well done with the prompt!
