Liner Notes

Talk of the future is what I so often do. And often it is existential, so let's do something different this time; the future of a persons success.
Hopefully the future of my zong collection is bright

Lyrics

(Hello) A useless little freak
(Hello) Do you wanna talk?
(Hello) But your voice is too weak?
(Hello) Do you wanna make sure they hear
(Hello) Your next masterpiece

Well too bad, lad
Well isn't it sad?
That you work so hard
And you get nothing back
That you're future's so bright
But they've turned of the light
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)

Is your sadness prescribed?
But your depression homemade?
Do you wanna pick your path?
But has the road been laid?
You may have made a mistake

Well too bad, lad
Well isn't it sad?
That you work so hard
And you get nothing back
That you're future's so bright
But they've turned of the light
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)

Have you tried to talk back?
But you keep hitting the voicemail?
Do you wanna hear predictions?
But they're still using tarot?
And you need to know your future wealth

Well too bad, lad
Well isn't it sad?
That you work so hard
And you get nothing back
That you're future's so bright
But they've turned of the light
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)
(Aah, ooh, aah, ooh)

That you're future's so bright
But they've turned of the light
And things that you can't be
Are the things that you could have been

This is solid tight writing. Trained as an economist, I notice first the squeeze put on the protagonist, but of course there is much more here than that. Deft work in implying the sides of the story while telling it from a devilishly twisted narrative point of view.

Good work. I really like the Hello bits at the start - feels like call and response? Can imagine it being sung with some hard-edged attitude, but with catchy poppy bits interspersed.
