Liner Notes

Liz is generous sharing her lyrics for us music types. I think this is the eleventh or twelfth song I've done based on Liz's creativity. Regrettably, I think my mind got caught in a rut. Although the task is completed, I think my execution doesn't match the quality of the source material.

Liz says: I absolutely love Paul’s approach to the lyric! The music has a bit a jaunty feel that is perfect for the metaphors and the melody, pacing, vocals add such a lovely warmth and tenderness!

Lyrics

She's chomping at the bit, he's pulling back the reins
She's kicking in the spurs, he's begging her to stay
But not everyone can have their own way

They've been racing around life's barrels
They've been jumping rough obstacles
They've been trying to stay on the course
But now she's riding away...from home

She's going full speed, he's pulling up the rear
She's clearing triple bars, he's wishing she were here
But sometimes you must let go of fear

They've been racing around life's barrels
They've been jumping rough obstacles
They've been trying to stay on the course
But now she's riding away...from home

It's like the steeplechase of life and love
Where sometimes your best is not enough
When the distances are long and the challenges tough

They've been racing around life's barrels
They've been jumping rough obstacles
They've been trying to stay on the course
But now she's riding away...from home

As a former barrel racer (just for fun) and equestrian cross country fan, I adore this! Four different disciplines in the song but I always admired versatile horses. Great analogy for relationships. And the racing feel of the music works.

Amazingly good lyrics from @kahlo2013 that are so original and clever, given a perfect interpretation by @paul_pedersen
The whole song, message and rendition were a joy to hear!

I enjoyed all the metaphors in this and story about opposite approaches to life. It's sad but happy too because "she" presents as a free spirit and "he" a bit more controlled. Opposites may attract, but not always for the best as stated here. Music sounds good as it and the singing give it an up/down quality which fits with the opposites "theory" of mine. lol
