Liner Notes

This song looks at how people often show one thing on social media and in photos, but feel something different inside.

Lyrics

Flashbulb pops, frozen grins
A perfect moment captured in
But behind those eyes so bright
Lurks a story out of sight

Smile for the camera, hold that pose
But nobody really knows

Say cheese, say cheese
Picture perfect, if you please
Say cheese, say cheese
Life's not always what it seems
Click click, snap snap
We're caught in this photo trap
Say cheese, say cheese
But who are we beneath?

Social media, curated lives
Filters hiding all our lies
Swipe left, swipe right, double-tap
Reality falls through the cracks

Smile for the camera, hold that pose
But nobody really knows

Say cheese, say cheese
Picture perfect, if you please
Say cheese, say cheese
Life's not always what it seems
Click click, snap snap
We're caught in this photo trap
Say cheese, say cheese
But who are we beneath?

In this carousel of faces
Spinning through digital spaces
When the music stops, what then?
Will we recognize ourselves again?

Smile for the camera, hold that pose
But nobody really knows

Say cheese, say cheese
Picture perfect, if you please
Say cheese, say cheese
Life's not always what it seems
Click click, snap snap
We're caught in this photo trap
Say cheese, say cheese
But who are we beneath?

Say cheese, say cheese
Picture perfect, if you please
Say cheese, say cheese
But who are we when no one sees?

people curate their lives in various ways, and here you take it a step further into the celebrity world, where other people curate your lives until yur public image becomes a doppelganger. I believe that is why so many celbrities suicide. they dont realize they are killing themselves. they are think they are ridding themselves of the double. it is a serious song with a charming surface that conceals the tragic reality behind the words.

Wow - the *immense* compression on the drums takes this one into unexpected, high-gloss territory which really suits the subject matter. This has many of the same qualities which the music of Sparks has which make me like it so much: it's weird and slightly unsettling, but also unforgettable.
