The Stone in my Hand
Opened the book "How to Write a Song that Matters" by Dar Williams to a random page. This line caught my eye

I thought of the Stone in the Soup folk tale, and used the story as my lyric. #folk #guitelele #acousticonetake
Lyrics
Stone Soup
Verse 1:
I walked into a village, weary and cold,
With nothing in my pockets, just stories untold.
The people there were guarded, doors all shut tight,
But I knew a little secret to bring warmth to the night.
Chorus:
So I dropped a stone in the water, let it start to brew,
Said, "This stone soup is magic, but it needs a little from you."
One by one, they came around, with a carrot, with a pea,
And together we made something more than we ever thought could be.
Verse 2:
They gathered 'round the fire, eyes full of doubt,
But curiosity sparked where there once was only drought.
I stirred the pot with hope, watched it start to steam,
And what began as just a stone, turned into a dream.
Chorus:
So I dropped a stone in the water, let it start to brew,
Said, "This stone soup is magic, but it needs a little from you."
One by one, they came around, with a carrot, with a pea,
And together we made something more than we ever thought could be.
Bridge:
A pinch of kindness, a dash of grace,
In that simple pot, we found our place.
What was once just a stone, is now a feast,
We shared our hearts, and our fears released.
Chorus:
So I dropped a stone in the water, let it start to brew,
Said, "This stone soup is magic, but it needs a little from you."
One by one, they came around, with a carrot, with a pea,
And together we made something more than we ever thought could be.
Outro:
Now the pot is empty, but the warmth still remains,
In the hearts of the people, who broke their chains.
For the stone in the soup, was just a start,
To show that all we needed, was a little from the heart.
Comments
One suggestion. The "drought" seemed forced to me.
How about:
"They gathered 'round the fire, their eyes bulging out,
But curiosity sparked where there once was only doubt.
