When I saw this skirmish, I knew immediately what I had to write about. It's a classic Stephen King Lovecraft-flavored horror story where the mist simply rises up and blankets a lakeside tourist town near the end of the summer, after a heavy storm. You won't like what's waiting for you in the mist...

(The A/C turned on while I was recording, and I'm tired. I might re-record when I'm not tired. Sorry about the ratty sound quality.)

Lyrics

(Capo 3)

VI
Am
Just a storm, just a storm
Em
Like any other that we’d seen
F E
The neighbor’s car was crushed beneath a tree
Am
Your mother said we needed food
Em
The roads were being cleared
F E
I left her there, you came along with me

Am
As we drove away
Em
The mist was rolling in
F E
At the time I figured it would go
Am
My last view of your mother
Em
Was her walking out alone
F E
To her garden, to dig around the rows

CHORUS
F
The mist is the monster
Am
The mist is our death
E Am
The mist is ravenous with need
F
The mist eats the landscape
Am
The mist is the Beast
F G Am
The mist devours and leaves us here to bleed

V2
At the corner grocery
All the town was there
The mist, it came in right up to the doors
We couldn’t see a thing, then
The parking lot was gone
The only eyes that I could see were yours

Monsters fluttered here and there
A batwinged nightmare came
And something oozing up from down below
I tried to keep you far away
But couldn’t do a thing
To keep from seeing horrors in the glow

CHORUS

V3
Someone else went out the doors
A rope tied to his belt
Silence, then a scream and then a roar
We drew the rope back to us
It ended with a shock
Bloodsoaked, it had been through a war

And then a shouting voice —
It was Mrs. Carmody
Demanding that we all say it was true
Judgment day, she cried aloud
Pointing right at me
“A sacrifice!” she shrieked and reached for you

CHORUS

V4
We just ran straight for our truck
(Thank God I parked it close)
Threw ourselves together through the doors
The monsters beat the windows
But I floored it and we raced
I don’t know what we are racing towards

Through the mist we’re traveling
Searching for the day
We’ll never see the sun again, I fear
We’re hiding in a motel
I don’t know where this will end
But I’ll hold you till the sun will find us here

CHORUS

Not a horror fan but you tell the story very well and make it intriguing.

I love that short story/mini-novel! And you tell the story so wonderfully and hauntingly. The song unfolds in such a compelling way - lovely playing and singing.

OOOooooooh! What a story! Very creepy (that's a compliment.) You have quite an imagination, and to create this within a skirmish is quite remarkable. Yes, it definitely reminds me of Stephen King. I also liked naming Mrs. Carmody. Fine song!
