What a Nomad Treasures

The store name I started with was Nomad Treasures. I converted “treasures” to a verb to heighten the tension between the two words. A person who never stays in one place is naturally limited in how much they can hold in a material sense. I liked the alliterative contrast between nomad and noble, the former identified by not being attached to a place, the latter so attached to a land holding as to make travel difficult.
The chord progression throughout has a bare minimum of harmonic movement, alternating between C6 and Am7. This created a challenge for melody writing, but also gave me a mood of aimless drifting that fits the song well.
Lyrics
Out beyond the horizon
Through a glass
Finding markings in the sand
A fragrance in satin
No merchant back home
Would understand
Why try to explain it
What a nomad treasures
A noble has no standing
To discount
Experience is the measure
For what scribes and poets
Leave out
And out on the horizon
Tracing the path
To an X marked on a map
From another era
Inside the cover of a book
In red and black
To anywhere but here
What a nomad treasures
A noble has no standing
To discount
Experience is the measure
For what scribes and poets
Leave out
Count the steps to the horizon
Somewhere over the horizon
On a road
To places never been seen
Ports of long forgotten
Works and houses
Not quite fit for a queen
On a city street waving
What a nomad treasures
A noble has no standing
To discount
Experience is the measure
For what scribes and poets
Leave out
What a nomad treasures
A noble has no standing
To discount
Experience is the measure
For what scribes and poets
Leave out
Count the steps to the horizon
