Don't Wanna Go to Work

by @edwardsmusic

Liner Notes

This was written in a mentoring session with my mentor Rhys Renwick at my music course Wild at Heart Community Arts. We aimed to work on a new song in our session. Rhys came up with the lyrics and most of the music, whilst I contributed some chords to the chorus and a guitar countermelody.

I plugged Rhys' acoustic-electric guitar into a Peavey guitar amp, and played with the settings to produce a tremolo effect.

This was recorded on my phone on the 21st of August 2024 in the bandroom at the Sol Green Community Centre.

Rhys Renwick - lead vocals, electric piano
Edward Roussac - backing vocals, acoustic guitar

Lyrics

Wake up, put slippers on my feet
Make a yummy omelette to eat
Take off out the door for my day
Face a lot of traffic on my way

I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work

Setting up fax
Paying my tax
Dodging my boss's attacks
Finalise these documents I have in stacks

I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work
I don't wanna go to work

Such a cool, loose sound, reminds me of early Stones somehow and the harmonies on the chorus are really nice. You did some good work there in the band room. I do also like the squeaky doors that snuck in there, intentional or not, it really adds to the feeling of being there in the room.

That shimmery guitar is very cool and the squeaky door solos were a fun bonus! Be warned: the older you get, the more this sentiment takes hold of things, possibly because the ordeal of working for a living just gets less and less fun. I am *so* glad I'm largely retired at this point.
