Liner Notes

David sent me these expertly crafted lyrics and asked if I would make the music. Challenge, as always, accepted! It sounded to me a little bit country, so...

Lyrics

I got lost in promises
And promising the world
Like I’d move all the rest
For some nowhere girl

I would’ve been a contender
Or, at least a pretender
But I got into your line
I thought I could make you mine

But some truth don’t lie easy
Some fools can’t handle the rest
Some truth don’t lie easy
And some of us can’t face the test

I was swept into ashes
And losing my way
In all the grit and grime
Guess my heart too strayed

Didn’t think I could be a winner
But felt like a beginner
Standing there in your exit door
Cause for some reason I wanted more

But some truth don’t lie easy
Some fools can’t handle the rest
Some truth don’t lie easy
And some of us can’t face the test

Analyze it…
But realize it…
For what it was
Just a sliver..
Of a life…
That could’ve been love
That could’ve been love
That could’ve been love

Beautiful lyrics, and the country folk treatment works brilliantly. Love the little arrangement details, none of which distract from the vocal and guitar. Also love the filtered harmony vocal on the choruses, a nice sonic contrast. And that gorgeous outro. Great collab!
