Strip Away

#songsidekicksongcircle
#protest
I wrote a short poem about a guy at a microphone at one of the train shows I attended. He was trying to give away a door prize that no one in the assembly wanted to own. He must have picked 30-40 tickets before someone actually took it to stop him from ranting.
When the prompt was given in the Zoom, song circle last Friday, I used the foundation of my poem, to create a protest song. Then I needed to find some music. Synths and percussion track courtesy of @glade. This one was called Scorpion.
And oh yes, I picked a title from #titular. Made the jam to stick it all together.
Lyrics
Strip Away
Lyric by Linda Mielke
Instrumental by gslade Scorpion
[Verse 1]
when you discover that what you're offering
Isn't desirable any more
That your day to day is over
the same old story is ignored
when you just can't
continue
pretending
[chorus]
strip away the yearning
strip away the grief
strip away the conformity
the story will be brief
it's time to clean the slate
it’s time to demonstrate
no more time for useless debate
turn over a new leaf
[Verse 2]
when you realize it's a tale of lost souls
there's no door prize to explore
the illusions that we once held dear
fade away like shadows on the floor
when you can't find
the reason
to keep fighting
[Chorus]
strip away the yearning
strip away the grief
strip away the conformity
the story will be brief
it's time to clean the slate
it’s time to demonstrate
no more time for useless debate
turn over a new leaf
[Bridge]
let go of the fear that binds you
release the chains of yesterday
there's a light that's waiting to find you
but first, you've got to strip away
[Chorus]
[Outro]
strip away the anger
strip away the shame
strip away the echoes
of a life lived in vain
find what's real underneath
and turn over a new leaf
strip away, strip away, strip away
to be free
