Zoning Out

Liner Notes

The basis behind the music was when I attempted to rehearse "Where is My Mind?" by the Pixies with a couple of mates. They didn't know two of the barre chords in the song's verse progression, so our mentor suggested them to only play the chords they knew - E and A - and skip the barre chords.

The lyrics deal with confusion. I had that theme of "zoning out" in my head.

Lyrics

This is a little song I wrote
I'm zoning out from these notes
Don't mind me, not paying attention
No need to worry about convention

Chorus
I skip chords that are too hard to play
Expression of thoughts will find a way
Silence is where it's at
Guess I can do better than that

You might think it's repetitive and relentless
But really, this is all eventless
I don't hear or see what's around me
For a period of time, just briefly

Chorus
I skip chords that are too hard to play
Expression of thoughts will find a way
Silence is where it's at
Guess I can do better than that

This is a little song I wrote
I'm zoning out from these notes
Don’t mind me, not paying attention
No need to worry about convention

Chorus
I skip chords that are too hard to play
Expression of thoughts will find a way
Silence is where it's at
Guess I can do better than that

Zoning out from these notes
Zoning out from these notes

I think the line "I skip chords that are too hard to play" is just a little too close to home. I mean, I *can* learn things and I *do* learn things but sometimes... just sometimes. I like that sparse guitar and bass line and the piano is a nice touch.
