Dissociated State

Liner Notes

From punky to funky. Who says that songs about depression have to be... well... depressing?

Thankfully not something I suffer from but my heart goes out to those who do.

The upbeat positive music is deliberately set against the bleak words but no place for the bridge. Sorry @cindyrella

Lyrics

Sometimes I just sit and stare
And I have no care
If the world is crazier than me

Sometimes I fill up space
No expression on my face
No concern for how I should be

Chorus
It's a way to cope
When it kills my hope
But I'll soon come back around
It's a way to dream
Even if I would rather scream
And all my head does is pound...pound...pound

Bridge
If I'm in a dissociated state
That's fine mate, it really is
Because it won't last, cause life's a gas
And I'm a part of all that is

Sometimes I watch the dust
Until I'm ready to adjust
To the next bit of trauma coming to me

Sometimes I just sleep
But I have promises to keep
And I don't like too much drama

I think putting depressing lyrics into upbeat packages is a really good technique. It can make it accessible and bring attention to the issue in a way that might not otherwise get attention. And boy isn't this upbeat! So danceable!

cool bongo break kicking off the instrumental section. the music is uptempo but not neccessarily upbeat. the vocals dont exactly express depression, but they do express anxiety and some other side effects of depression. in other word, the beat may be construed as happy, but th vocals are tense and on edge. not in a stereotypical way, but in the way anxiously depressed people talk when they are cutting loose with their real feelings. cindy's lyrics are clinically spot on, and i like the way davey expresses them

This is great! Nobody did say it has to be depressing, and this makes me happy! I really like that it's upbeat. Funky and catchy too! Thanks!
