Bouncing Back

Liner Notes

This is a song I had been working on with my mentor Jay Jerome Bushby at Wild at Heart Community Arts.

Jay held a songwriting workshop near the end of July 2024 (I was absent). In our mentoring session, I asked him what was discussed in the workshop, and he mentioned the theme of "survival" or "recovery" from difficult situations. He demonstrated a chord progression he played in the workshop, and we wrote a song about this theme.

This was recorded on my phone at home on the 8th of August 2024. I sang and played piano. This recording is under-rehearsed (with me pausing a couple of times to read the lyrics) but I don't care; at least I have this song finished.

Lyrics

BOUNCING BACK

D Bm G Em

V1
Standing at the barriers between us
Why'd you have to make such a fuss?
Now I'm back on the street
How can I stand on my own two feet?

Chorus
Why don't we talk it out? (talk it out)
If you just hear me out (hear me out)
Maybe we could work it out (work it out)
Never wanted us falling out (falling out)

v2 same as v1

chorus

bridge
Bm A F#m G

Is it time to let go?
Even though I'd rather hold on
I don't know if we should just give up
Are these days really gone?

This is a wonderful idea for a song and well done for capturing this. I'm sure it will polish into a lovely track.

There's something captivating about the sweet earnestness of this. Catchy too. The lyrical turn at the end really hits hard
