Nothing Here

Liner Notes

I got out my old resonator to play some slide on the next 5 tracks of my country album. And I wrote these lyrics because I live in a big, empty country.

Lyrics

Won't find no fancy dealer
To sell you your fast cars
No yachts or diamond rings
Or members-only clubs

Ain't nothing here but the sky
You won't see no one else around for miles

You won't find nothing here
There ain't no place anywhere near
If you want your fancy things
Your yachts and diamond rings
You'll have to go and find them elsewhere

The ground beneath my feet
Has never seen much rain
The water in the creek
Has dried up once again

The back-to-basics lyrics fit perfectly with the "doing it all for real" quantisation-free arrangement. The drums go as fast as each part of the song needs them to, which would make Ken Scott very happy (he grumbled about click tracks a LOT during the talk he gave at Real World last month and singled out no less a drummer than Charlie Watts as an example of someone who knows how to let feel govern bpm...)

What a treat to see someone playing all the instruments in a song. You certainly have achieved that authentic country feel - nice slide guitar and lead guitar! Great drums too. You are your own band!
