Liner Notes

I saw the chance to rhyme “hurricanes” with “shipping lanes.” This is surely too short, but it is as far as I got.

Lyrics

We pulled a coconut out of the surf
I know I promised you a photo
This one might have come from the Azores
Of course no one really knows

Here’s a story from the shipping lanes
I spent the summer dodging hurricanes
Raking seaweed when times were hard
Up all night on Ocean Boulevard

I’m still alive and that’s the good news
It shows that these are lucky times
Whatever happens there are scenic views
That’s what you get in tropical climes

Here’s a story from the shipping lanes
I spent the summer dodging hurricanes
Raking seaweed when times were hard
Up all night on Ocean Boulevard

That chorus is great! Love those rhymes and the storytelling.

Dodging hurricanes, whew, Raking seaweed is a hard job. That stuff stinks after a few days on the sand. But your lyric is a little gem, lots of nice snapshots of the life.

That's a great rhyme - had me thinking of the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (even though that was on lake!). That's a great chorus - you have the beginnings of a cool song!

I want to hear the rest of this fascinating story. How did you get there and how did you get out. Hmmm.

Interesting story. You might have found even more than a coconut!

I do think you have a great start here. If you decide to flesh it out further, I think that the 2nd chorus should be repurposed as a bridge.

I wonder if you have worked on shipping lanes! I can imagine places been mixed up, days dragging, constantly thinking of the weather.. Great story

Oooo… that is a wonderfully descriptive chorus! Great cadence to the song as well!
