Lyrics

(Capo 3)

V1
C Am
They want to go back to their good old days
F G
When women knew their place
C Am
When queers were hidden in the closet
F G
And never, ever showed their face

Am F
When folks of color were enslaved
Am G
And white folks ran the show
Am F
I hate to break it to them
Am G
‘Cause it seems they still don’t know

Chorus
C Am
We are not going back to the old ways
F G
We are not going back to what was then
C Am
We are not going back to their good old days
F
We’re going forward to the future
G
Forward to a new and better when

V2
They’re afraid of change; you can see it
In every single thing they say and do
They push away the knowledge of their history
They’re just rebels without a clue

They stand astride history shouting “No, no, no,”
Throw insults to telegraph their rage
They just don’t seem to get it
We’re at the dawning of a brand-new age

Chorus

V3
So take the hands of your brothers
Your sisters and your siblings, too
March past them in their ignorance
They’re scared of what we’ll do

And they should be, because the world is changing
And they won’t be in charge any more
The world will move on without them
That is what we’re fighting for

Chorus

Outtro:
A new and better when
Come with me; we’ll make it ours again

I've just enjoyed your rendition of this in the FotLR politics circle. I love that phrase "new and better when" and the chorus is so positive and rousing.

great subject, great approach, and yeah, I'm with ya !!! nice work!

'a new and better when' is such a great title phrase, and this is really effective and well said! music supports the lyric well, too. in a better world, this would be a big hit song!

I enjoy the positivity of this song!
This bit especially pleased me "They stand astride history shouting “No, no, no,”/ Throw insults to telegraph their rage” I like the syncopation of No no no and the word choice of “telegraph” an older form of technology— that gives a little extra emphasis to the message of your lyrics.

Affirmative and positive sounding antidote to all the hate that gets too much air time on the internet. Nice job!
