When the Songs Are Writing You

This one's about being a songwriter. Because, you know, nobody's EVER written a song about THAT before, right?
But I figured, for my 25th song I'd write about it being my 25th song, at least a little, and the kind of advice I would hope to get from more experienced songwriters.
So here. Have a little piece of me.
Lyrics
(Capo 1)
V1
G
It’s the 50/90 halfway mark:
Em
Just twenty-five to go
C Am
It feels like I’m moving at super speed
D
But it also feels so slow
G
Is this the way it always works
Em
When the songs are writing you?
C Am
I’m new to this, so please do tell me,
D G
What am I supposed to do?
Chorus
C
All songwriters feel like this
G
Somewhere along the way
C Am
Sometimes it is torture
D
Sometimes it is play
C Am
Words and notes play hide-and-seek
Em
Then spill out of your pen
C Am
Apparently it’s fun enough
D G
To do it all again
V2
I wake at two in the morning
Or four in the afternoon
With half a song sitting in my head
And waiting for a tune
Verses stack up in my mind
Melodies romp along
All the puzzle pieces waiting
To be put into a song
V3
One note takes me by the hand
And leads me to a line
A chord progression builds itself
And it’s all sounding fine
The rhythm is a little off
The scansion’s not sublime
But the song’s still coming through me
With its imperfect rhyme
Chorus
V4
I poke at imperfections
Changing up my strums
Maybe fingerpicked is better
I’ll play it for my chums
Get their feedback, try again
And soon I will be free
It doesn’t have to be perfect
Have a little piece of me
Chorus
