You can get surprisingly far musically using a bitcrushed 808-type-thing and a few patches in Mixcraft! Maybe I'll get one of those 8-track reel to reel machines when I have a million dollars. Making that Barenaked Ladies song real, one lottery win at a time.

The lyrics are very vent-y, sorry about that. I was in a somewhat dour state a week ago about really bad stuff that happened a long time ago, but I'm better now. Sometimes you just gotta write a song about that type of stuff to heal, y'know? It's not, like, EXPLICITLY sweary, but I'm still tagging this with NSFW as a precaution.

The "yeah?" + the distorted noises at the end are because my mom came in to inform me of something (not particularly important in the long run, but still greatly appreciated) and I had the foresight to keep it rolling - kinda inspired by the Car Seat Headrest song "beach weak", where Will's mom did the same while he was recording a vocal take and he also kept it rolling and distorted it at the end, except that one takes more of a focus in the mix because it's the only thing going on whereas I just wanted some trippy noises to accompany the outro, Highly recommend it if you're into weird lo-fi GBVesque stuff, should be on the bandcamps hereaways: https://carseatheadrest.bandcamp.com/track/beach-weak

Lyrics

A F#m E6 (later Aadd9 F#m7 E6 when the Rhodes comes in)

I see your face in my dreams when I go to bed
But I'm tired of the sight, can you pull yourself out of my head?
And the waves, how they're crashing on down on me
Eroding my body, showing off what I don't wanna see

Pull my strings if you want me to have something to say
Tie me down if you wanna keep having your way
But when I'm free, your apartment's gonna burn to the ground
And your remains won't be anywhere to be found

very catchy beat and good touches of instrumentation keep it really interesting. i like the sparseness in here and the distortion

I like the quality of the distortion you're working with on vocals, against the brighter belltones of the synth. The lyrics are really effective -- a tight write, I can hardly pull out a favorite line, but those last two in both verses are both great couplets.

Really digging the bass line on this one. The instrumentation at times feels like a string being pulled which is echoed at the start of the second verse which is cool. Nice job.

I like the spartan sounds and quirky cadences: suits the songs darker, um, intent. Feels better for your venty lyrics too: you get a sense that they _mean_ something. I suspect songs would be much the worse if nothing angsty ever happened. Every cloud... 🙂

Don't forget to credit your ma if this gets published.
