Starting from the #titular suggestion “If I Called You,” I drew a blank for 50 minutes, then arrived at this idea from today’s headlines and hacked it together in 15 minutes.

Lyrics

There’s a problem with work that has no direction
No sense of meaning or tradition
Only a sheet of paper that says we have a mission
Here on Earth
Our ethics officer keeps us from paying bribes
But takes a little extra on the side
At least we can say that we tried
For what it’s worth

If I called you in to the office
To work all weekend on a problem caused
By Microsoft in Redmond
And everyone and no one
Would you still agree that I’m the boss

Sometimes in work it seems you have no options
I guess that’s what happens when you have no conscience
And you go through life being unconscious
To the truth

It felt like we were tied up to the mast
It was a pretty good racket if we could make it last
But now it seems like our time is past
And here’s the proof

If I called you in to the office
To work all weekend on a problem caused
By Microsoft in Redmond
And everyone and no one
Would you still agree that I’m the boss

This has a cool 60s American folk Dylan-y feel to it, which seems like a bit of juxtaposition when singing about a modern issue, but more generally it's more about an age old problem. Nicely done.

It's interesting where the prompt took you with the title from the list. Definitely thought provoking.

Now that is a topical song. Impressive that you had it written in 15 minutes. I enjoyed it very much.
