#lyrics
I tried to arrive at something clever from the differences between British and American spelling. I’m not sure I quite got there, but danced around some commentary on modern life.

Lyrics

You say you’re “civilised”
And we say we’re “civilized”
We can’t both be right
This is a bigger difference
Than the notorious iota fight
Between an S and a zee
And a zee and a zed
It’s all gone terribly wrong
Something needs to be said
In the name of civilization
And the modern age
How can two great nations
Get on the same page

You heard a “rumour”
And I heard a “rumor”
They can’t both be true
What gossip is doing to me
And what it is doing to you
Between the word on the street
And the fact checker blogs
It’s all gone up in smoke
It’s all gone to the dogs
How did competition
Become its own proof
In an age when repetition
Can pose as the truth

It’s a question of “honour”
Or dare I say “honor”
We can’t both be right
Now is the time to stand up
We can’t both be right
We can’t both be right

It’s a very clever concept, and you pull it off quite well. I really like how there’s more left unsaid than said.

This is so cute! And definitely, let's duke it out and make a final decision about these things! My ESL students would be far less confused. 🤣🤣🤣

Now there's a song that can't get past an automated spell checker.
