Lyrics

7in7 prompt: Take an old song and add a new verse

i find the older that i get
it’s just so hard to let things go
lost acquaintences i’ve met
spinning in circles all alone

i think of paul at malta
after his ship was wrecked
he took the risk and fell
his faith and failure intersect
their leader brought him in
despite how sick his dad had been
paul cured the ill that day
provisions full they sailed away
no explanations just faith destinations

opportunities i’ve left
and all the times that i’ve said no
the victim cards i’ve played
control’s a masquerade
my safety net is full of holes

i think of paul at malta
after his ship was wrecked
he took the risk and fell
his faith and failure intersect
their leader brought him in
despite how sick his dad had been
paul cured the ill that day
provisions full they sailed away
no explanations just faith destinations

now as the sun begins to set
i think of all the ways i’ve grown
I’ll never win if I don’t bet
and I’m the one that makes my home

i think of paul at malta
after his ship was wrecked
he took the risk and fell
his faith and failure intersect
their leader brought him in
despite how sick his dad had been
paul cured the ill that day
provisions full they sailed away
no explanations just faith destinations

What a great idea to take one of your own songs for this challenge. I like the doubled voices and the sweet melody line. The piano melodies and chords are very effective, too.

Those simple harmonies work very well. And I like that you didn’t take the predictable route in either the melody or the lyrics, keeping this feeling fresh and new the whole way through.

Great lyrics, reminds me of my dad who could be in that melancholic state a lot. Fantastic delivery as well

@jyoo
Very nice melodies and love the simple, crunchy harmonic choices in the piano!
