“Quick Draw” - #fawm 50/90 2024 original song 7

Here’s another lyrical draft from last summer’s 50/90 skirmishes. This is a pretty rough demo, as I’m still working out exactly what I wanna do with the rhythms and transitions. I remember wanting to tell an “older” love story — second chances with folks from your past happen every now and then, and romance isn’t only for the young.

I made a little mistake in the melody on the second time through the verse melody, which always makes me want to re-record, but I just don’t have time this morning. This is probably good for me!😅

Lyrics

Came home a week to see my folks,
Running errands for assorted things.
Ran into you at the hardware store,
Neither of us wearing rings

It’s been a while but there’s the smile
That weakened my young knees.
In your green eyes, in your warm arms
I’m flashing back to seventeen.

Stood back to back, walked thirty years,
Thought we’d have gone too far,
But all I had to do was turn
And you got me on the quick draw

Quick draw, quick draw

I’m not sure I can remember
What the last fight was about
But we weren’t so bad together
Just young and dumb and quick to doubt

I swear I wasn’t looking down
The trailheads of the past.
Knocked off the horse a time or two,
Life doesn’t circle first to last

CHORUS

Now here you are, you’ve gone and got
Me twisted into knots like then
And here I am, defenses stalled,
Like there’s a chance to start again.

CHORUS X2

Love what you’re doing with your voice here at the high end of your range. Soft touches throughout the verses, Saving one solid punch for the bridge. And at the low end, you’ve got a sweetness and poignancy throughout.

That chorus is a killer. Absolutely brilliant.

I love this! Great look at this moment, I love the “stood back to back walked thirty years” section

@bunga
This reminds me of the great film Blue Jay (on Netflix if you haven't seen it) - nice work!
