Challenge: IdiomLiner Notes
This is for the idiom #challenge, with the expression "Let It Lie." The section of the first verse about the hidden venom and thorns came to me when I spotted a Carolina Horsenettle on the lake shore by my new home.
It was a hard song to write, but I think the words will be with me for years to come. I hope they will not be true for as long.

Lyrics
Let It Lie
Jemma Kline
The homes are bright and spacious on the street,
And the people seem so friendly when we meet,
But the twinkle in their eyes,
Hides the venom deep inside,
And the thorns are lying sharpened just beneath.
Just let it lie,
Let the shadow of their hatred pass you by.
Just let it lie,
Do not dare to risk a meeting of the eye.
The policemen will protect the city square,
For they’ve brought their wooden clubs and rifles there.
They will tear our banners down,
And then force us to the ground,
If we dare to call for freedom everywhere.
Just let it lie,
Let the shadow of their hatred pass you by.
Just let it lie,
Do not dare to risk a meeting of the eye.
(Flute solo)
Just let it lie,
Let the shadow of their hatred pass you by.
Just let it lie,
Do not dare to risk a meeting of the eye.
But I’m good at lying low and blending in,
Though I know that others think that I’m a sin.
And I’ll bury all my pride,
Look away when others die,
Keep my secrets locked so deep within my skin.
Just let it lie,
Let the shadow of their hatred pass you by.
Just let it lie,
Do not dare to risk a meeting of the eye,
Just let it lie.
Let it lie,
Let it lie.

Was digging the flute solo.
The part about the policemen was producing some imagery relevant to modern social issues.
