Liner Notes

First time posting without a demo, but I really want to get this in for the skirmish. I'm pretty happy with these lyrics; I'll put together the rest another time.

Lyrics

Bones
Jemma Kline

One day, perhaps in spring,
They will discover me, a broken thing.
one bone, perhaps my shin;
they will uncover all the pieces that I’ve been.

For I’ll be bones;
They will believe that they can read me like a tome.
They’ll read my bones,
But they will never learn the wonders that I’ve known.

My smile, upon my face
They’ll never feel it, or see my grace
My curves, beneath my skin
They will not hear the spoken story that I sm

For I’ll be bones;
They will believe that they can read me like a tome.
They’ll read my bones,
But they will never learn the wonders that I’ve known.

For all the tissues, blood and viscera will fade and wash away;
Without my love and joy and energy, what essence will remain?

For I’ll be bones;
They will believe that they can read me like a tome.
They’ll read my bones,
But they will never learn the wonders that I’ve known.
No they will never learn the wonders that I’ve known.

Hi. This is a really really lovely lyric. I adore it. Truly. I have a question - or rather a thought. Tome. It feels out of place to me. A scholarly word in the midst of such ordinary words elevated by the brilliant way you've put them together. To me the simple ordinary book works just as well and is more in keeping. I have similar but lesser feelings towards viscera - would guts not maybe be more powerful and accessible here? Sometimes simple keeps your audience with you. As I say just a thought, feel free to ignore it completely. I really do love this.

Love me a take on archeology, how it is used and what it cannot capture. Found myself immediately imagining the melody and potential changes, etc. I for one would be quite interested in hearing how you might choose to set this to a tune. Very insightful lyrical work.

Love this line: "Without my love and joy and energy, what essence will remain?" This has me pondering what is more accurate (probably neither), guessing a life from bones or appearance (like when people watching)? -Natalie

Love your take on the prompt, kind of literally a skeleton key! Nice and vivid imagery, but thought provoking too. Good skirmishing

This is such an interesting take on the prompt - bones as the key to understanding (archeology!) but how much can never be unlocked from only those remnants of a life.
