Lyrics

The Tides Are Teeth (The Chase Begins)

Mise-en-scène:
The boat tilts with the current—playful, dangerous.

Protagonist:
"The creek dipped—Up, down—The current carving a path that didn’t care if we followed."

Companion (firm, eyes forward):
"Don’t stop."

Mise-en-scène:
The tunnel’s entrance—black and yawning—consumes the last of the grey sky.

Protagonist:
"A tunnel—Mouth wide, Throat endless."

(No response—only the sound of their breathing.)

Mise-en-scène:
The air cools, thickens. Darkness tightens like a knot.

Protagonist:
"With darkness… Comes clarity."

(The oars scrape, the sound dull in the oppressive dark.)

Mise-en-scène:
Suddenly—light. Wrong. Sickly.

Protagonist:
"The water—Thick. Green. The sky—A dark beige, the color of something spoiled."

Companion (barely a whisper):
"Look."

Mise-en-scène:
A lighthouse, skeletal, looms ahead. Its eye—open, unblinking—casts no light.

Protagonist:
"A lighthouse. Its eye peeled wide—But it sheds… No light."

(Silence, but the Companion shivers.)

Mise-en-scène:
The waves slap against the raft, almost playful. A grin without teeth.

Protagonist:
"The oars—Pull heavy, as if the water gripped back."

Companion (uneasy):
"They’re… playing with us."

Mise-en-scène:
A wave rises high, as if to swallow, then falls—laughing.

Protagonist:
"The waves—They rise with grins, Fall with laughter—They are teeth."

Companion (nervously amused):
"I think they like us."

Mise-en-scène:
The raft tilts violently. A crash of water. The boat spins—oars lost. Silence.

Protagonist:
"Or they’re just… Waiting to swallow."

(The waves fall still. Waiting.)
