Liner Notes

@jinx did such an amazing job in the post card exchange. I really thank them for their lovely note reproduced in full below.

"Dear Mike,

Through my window I see, far away, a cylindrical brick tower that looks faintly Italian, like a painting by De Chirico. In summer I leave the windows open all day, serenaded by the voices of the gulls from the canal, and every evening exactly at six I can hear distant church bells ringing. Now, in the depths of winter, my old double-paned windows are shut tight. I can't hear the bells, but I know they still ring.

We make our own music in winter.

Warm greetings from,

Jinx"

The bells and the images of De Chirico and the general feeling around me is quite abstract and surreal. I used that feeling, the moroseness beauty of The Blue Violinist by Marc Chagall inspired me to construct what I had created so far into a cohesive Down the Rabbit Hole fantasy album. This is the first track. Most of my instrumental tracks so far are complete more or less. These remaining songs are not.

Call for #collab #needscollab #collaboration #collaborationswelcome

I am imagining a more spoken word interlude over this instrumental track posted above (and for the rest of the tracks in the album). The timing of where these interludes are fluid. The lyrics as they are below are fluid. I included a mise en scene feeling, but if you so desire to change everything - feel free. The track is available for download.

If you would like to chat about doing the remaining tracks - send me an email.

If you need a track with lower volume - also let me know.

I appreciate any listen as always. 🙏🙏🙏

Lyrics

Mise-en-scène:
The Protagonist watches the sky, dull and uncaring.

Protagonist:
"Industry leads to pity. The white snow blankets, but the grey puffs billow—Chimneys exhaling filth into a sky too tired to care."

Companion (impatient):
"If you stand here too long, you’ll freeze."

Mise-en-scène:
The bells ring, distant but hollow, like a call with no answer.

Protagonist:
"The bells toll our hearts. To God, to work—Or maybe just to remind us that time is still moving. I feel like neither."

Companion (teasing):
"Then let’s make one."

Mise-en-scène:
The Protagonist smiles bitterly, unsure.

Protagonist:
"There is no adventure here."

Companion (breathless with excitement):
"It’s waiting for us!"

Mise-en-scène:
The wind stills. The world feels hushed, waiting.

Protagonist:
"They pull me. Their light, bright against my darkness—Contrast, or correction? Muse? Who knows?"

(The Companion says nothing—only pulls ahead.)

Mise-en-scène:
They bundle up. Wooden boards creak under their steps. The creek, shockingly unfrozen, gurgles as if inviting.

Protagonist:
"The ground is covered in snow. But the creek isn’t."

Companion (voice bright with daring):
"It’s waiting for us!"

Mise-en-scène:
The raft, makeshift and simple, scrapes as it pushes from shore.

Protagonist:
"We build our float—Simple, sturdy. And we push off—Down the river, into the unknown."

(The bells fade, swallowed by distance.)

Oh man, this is amazing! I am digging the vibe of this soundscape. The melodic background patterns sound synthy but somehow also remind me of a choppy orchestral string section in a modernist classical piece – shades of Stravinsky. And this lyric-script-poem paints such a picture in and of itself. That plus the music almost makes me feel like I'm experiencing a surreal contemporary opera performance.
