Before I step into the light
Before I step onto the stage
Something inside of me takes shape
It’s time to don the hero’s cape
Time for me to find escape

On the stage I stand so tall
Gone the boy who looks so small
I can capture your attention
Though it’s hard for me to mention
I find it just creates tension

Anxiety to overcome
Hours rehearsing with my mum
I’ve done my best to learn my lines
Don’t want to make a big mistake
I get so nervous I could break

Can’t see the audience at all
So no one can see me if I fall
I’ll do my best to make you proud
The audience all talk so loud

At the end of the play
Then I’ll go home, back to feeling that way again

I like how the soothing melody makes it easy for me to ponder the words; almost like a meditation on performance. I often feel that way too, I'm putting on a different persona during a performance.
